Progressive Collapse Resistance Competition 2007

Overview

The Progressive Collapse Resistance Competition is a national competition organized by Mehrdad Sasani of Northeastern University's Civil Engineering Department. The competition involves predicting the behavior of a model reinforced concerete structure subjected to loads leading to progressive collapse.

To support the competition, a new element is under development for Arcade: a reinforced concrete beam-column element that models non-linear flexural behavior, including reinforcing bar fracture. This element is currently accessible only through a text-based input mechanism, called ArcadeScript, described in the resources section below.

This element is accessible in version 4.2.0 and later.

Resources

The beam03 element models non-linear flexral behavior of reinforced concrete beam-columns. The following resources show how to define models using this element through the ArcadeScript interface.

  • The ArcadeScript Manual
    • This manual explains the ArcadeScript syntax and input methods, including the details of the beam03 element.
  • Example files
    • sample-file.rds
      • A one element model with a 20-foot cantilever supporting a point load at the tip.
    • two-bay-three-story-1.rds
      • A two-bay, three-story frame, at 1:8 scale. The model demonstrates options appropriate for a model of this scale.
