Program Description
The Architecture School at Brandenburg Technical University was founded ten years ago in connection with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany. It is located approximately 1-1/2 hours by train outside of Berlin, near the border with Poland. This program is being developed specifically for the University of Virginia and will coincide with our academic calendar for the fall semester. Approximately four students will be selected to participate each year.
All classes are taught in English by German Faculty. Typically, architecture students will enroll in the following courses:
- Architectural Design Studio
- Architecture and Planning
- Architectural Conservation
- Architectural Theory
In addition, some course work in a number of fields offered through the BTU Cottbus English language World Heritage Program will be available as will studies in German language. Students interested in studying in Cottbus should consult with Craig Barton, Campbell Hall (924.6467).
Cost
As an exchange program, normal tuition will be paid to the University of Virginia. Housing costs and estimated personal expenses have yet to be precisely determined, but will likely be comparable to costs at UVA. Airfare excursion rate on SAS from Washington is approximately $700. Field trips estimated cost $1,000.
